Boys Recreational
Boys recreational is a one hour class for school-aged boys ages 6 and up. The curriculum shifts from the more general gymnastics approach taught in younger-aged classes to a specific focus on men’s gymnastics events: vault, high bar, floor exercise, rings, pummel horse (mushroom) and parallel bars.

Class objectives include development of strength and flexibility as well as character, discipline, self-confidence and goal achievement. Gymnastics helps boys with body-awareness and control, allows them to expend their natural energy in a healthy manner and serves as a great foundation for all sports. The curriculum mixes focused skill development with high-energy games and fun. Cost is $55 per month.

Why Participate in Gymnastics?

Boys are unique in that they are more interested in exploring their athletic
potential and are highly motivated to build their self-image through strength and fitness. Any activity that challenges them to improve upon their ‘personal best’ involving time or strength achievements will be highly motivating to boys.

Boys can benefit from gymnastics participation in the following ways:
  • It’s fun and great exercise!
  • Physical fitness development – particularly self-confidence, teamwork, responsibility, friendship and sportsmanship
  • Accomplishment of goals – setting goals and working to achieve them
  • It’s a great developmental activity, whether the goal is advancement in gymnastics or preparation for another sport

Basic Skills Achievement Program

The Basic Skills Achievement Program consists of four levels of skill progressions, which take boys from beginning basics through competitive level skills in all six men's Olympic events.

The program, developed by USA Gymnastics with guidance from men's coaching professionals, is designed to help boys learn and progress safely starting with their very first class.

The Basic Skills Achievement program provides opportunity for advancement, recognizes individual accomplishments and encourages mastery of foundational men's gymnastics skills.

In addition to gymnastics skills development, the program focuses on strength, flexibility and basic conditioning exercises for overall fitness. The curriculum also emphasizes goal setting and working as a team.
