Tonight is Trick or Treat in Main Street and High Flyers will be performing on the airtrack in front of Starbucks at 4:30. Gymnasts - weather is supposed to be in the high 50s so wear your warmups and team leotard. Everyone else - come out and watch our amazing gymnasts! The program is tumbling to music and will last about 20 minutes. Afterwards you can check out all the great downtown Los Alamos Trick or Treat opportunities.
No more teachers, no more books ... oops, that was so last month. It's already back to school time and we are gearing up for our fall classes, which started yesterday. Our summer only offerings have ended and fall classes are filling quickly, so don't put off logging in and signing up for your favorite classes before you miss out. Check out the fall schedule on our schedule page. See you soon!
Today, June 4 is the 9th year anniversary of our opening day. We started out with 6 classes a week held in the Los Alamos YMCA basketball court and a U-Haul truck for our equipment. Before the beginning of each class, the coaches had to assemble the gym by carrying our bars, beams, and other equipment from the truck. Our floor consisted of borrowed panel mats from the YMCA. Our first June session had around 45 students enrolled. Here are a few photos from June 4, 2009, our opening day. Two years later, we moved to our corner next to Metzgers, and five years after that, to our present location where we have around 45 classes a week and over 250 students. Congratulations to coaches Leslie, Lynne, Linda, and David who founded High Flyers and are still a part of it today!
Congratulations to Tara, who did an impressive job representing High Flyers at the NM Xcel Championships last month. Tara competed in the Xcel Silver division and scored a 36.6 All-Around, with a 8.8 on bars, 8.95 on floor, 9.35 on beam, and 9.5 on vault. Her scores earned her the top spot in the annual High Flyers Achievers banner for vault and beam. Way to go Tara! We celebrated many competition successes at our annual team banquet, held at Cottonwood on the Green. Congratulations to all our 2017-18 team members!Members of the Level 2 and 3 teams are competing in their third meet of the year this weekend in Belen at the Monopoly meet while the Level 4-8 teams head to the Classic Rock Meet in Phoenix. Good luck to our all athletes!
Congratulations to our Level 2 team who took First Place Team at the Eagle Ridge Winter Invitational meet January 13. This is only the second meet ever for these girls. Great Job Team and Coaches Leslie and Ashley!
