Now that the competitive season has drawn to an end, I am in awe of what our team and coaches have accomplished this year. Our team gymnasts posted record scores this season, with every competitor demonstrating strength and maturity in her performances.
State championship titles went to Seanna on L2 bars, Mia on L2 floor, and Emily on L4 vault and floor. Mia, Isabelle, Siena, and Emily placed second All-Around at the NM State championships. Ashley, Kailey, and Naomi took third. But even more impressive than the medals earned were the high scores this year - six girls received 36+ all-around scores and another 12 received 35+ all-around scores. And for the first time ever, High Flyers sent a Level 7 gymnast to the Regional Championships. Next week, a new group of athletes will begin their competitive journey as we welcome 13 new team members to Level 2. Our current team members are already hard at work preparing for next season and learning new skills. We are so blessed to have such a remarkable and talented group of young women to work with and who make us so proud. You are truly HIGH FLYERS! Cheer on Ashley this weekend at the Level 7 Regional Championships to be held Thursday through Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Ashley will be competing against the best gymnasts from throughout Region 3, which is comprised on Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming. Ashley's third place finish and score of 35.825 at the New Mexico State Championships last month earned her a spot at the regional championships. She is the first ever High Flyer to do so. Congratulations and Good Luck Ashley! High Flyers had an excellent showing at the Zia Winter Fiesta held December 3 in Santa Fe, and walked away with four first place medals. Congratulations go out to all our team gymnasts!
Siena placed first all-around in the Level 4 middle age division with a score of 35.0, beating her nearest competitor by .45. In the same age division, Emily placed first on beam with a score of 9.05. Sarah took the gold medal on beam in the Level 5 older age division, while Mairen scored an amazing 9.5 to win first on vault in Level 3. Impressive results were posted by all seventeen High Flyers gymnasts competing in the meet. This meet marked the first time competing in a new, higher level for 11 of the 17. This Saturday, December 3rd is the first meet for our Level 3, 4, and 5 competitive teams. The meet will be held at Zia Gymnastics in Santa Fe, located at 1517 Pacheco Street. Athletes are grouped into the age they will be on March 5, 2017. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your athlete's stretch time - earlier if you child plans to dress at the gym. Athletes should come with their hair neatly clipped back from their face and with no jewelry (one pair of earring studs is allowable). There is an admission fee to watch the meet. Good luck High Flyers!
